Things You Should Be Doing Before A Workout
Ready to hit the gym? Have you prepared correctly? There are certain things that you should be doing before you hit the gym to help maximize your workout and speed up recovery for you body. Here are things you should be doing before a workout.
Eat good carbs and protein for energy and vitality. Eating foods that give you energy will help you stay on top of your game when you get to the gym. Pick foods that are high in protein like peanut butter on whole wheat toast, brown rice, fish and meats. Dairy will help your bones to be strong and fruits and vegetables will keep you feeling good.
2. Drink water
Drinking at least 20 ounces of water before working out helps your body to keep from getting dehydrated. Drinking water is one of the most important things you can do for your health and especially if you are working out. You lose water when you sweat and drinking more will help you feel energized and keep everything working properly.
4. Review your workout plan
There’s nothing worse than arriving at the gym and walking around aimlessly because you didn’t prepare beforehand. Reviewing the muscle groups or exercises you plan on doing can help you stay focused while you’re there. Make sure to have a good plan before you go.
7. Aerobic warm-up
Wake up muscles and start sweating a little bit by hopping on a bike, treadmill, elliptical or rowing machine for five minutes. This is increasing your temperature and blood flow and warming up your tendons.
8. Use a foam roller on muscles you will use
Though it’s not the most pleasant experience for everyone, a foam roller helps to iron out the kinks in your muscles so they’re loose and ready to work. Roll back and forth slowly over the muscle you are going to work out. Be careful and ask for help if you are unsure how to use the foam roller.
10. Make a playlist
Music can get you pumped and increase your energy and mood. Pick songs that you like to listen to and compile it into a playlist. You could even have songs for when you’re warming up, cooling down, and going strong. Music is a great motivator so choose your beats and get moving!
Get excited
Working out should be fun, enjoyable and a stress reliever. Make sure you go into the gym with a positive attitude, ready to work and get fit. If you are feeling down or are just not in the mood to work out, try thinking of all the benefits for your body before hitting the weights. You might be amazed how your mood changes!
